Are SBA loans personally guaranteed?
Yes. SBA loans require an unlimited personal guarantee from every owner holding 20% or more of the business: that's an SBA rule, not a lender preference, and it's effectively non-negotiable. Signing one means that if the business can't repay, the lender can pursue your personal assets. Plenty of owners sign without understanding what they've agreed to, and find out at the worst possible time. Understanding the guarantee, and weighing it against the SBA's unusually low rates, is exactly the tradeoff Quordx Capital helps borrowers think through before anything gets submitted.

What the SBA personal guarantee actually means
A personal guarantee makes you personally liable for the business's debt. "Unlimited" means it covers the full outstanding balance, not a capped slice. The 20% threshold applies per owner: three partners at 30% each all sign; a 10% minority owner generally doesn't have to, though lenders can require guarantees from smaller owners or key managers if they choose. Spouses with combined ownership reaching 20% can be pulled in too. Why does the SBA insist? The guarantee is the price of cheap capital.
If avoiding a personal guarantee is the goal
Full honesty: most small business financing involves a personal guarantee in some form, especially under $500K. But exposure varies by product:
Equipment financing: The equipment itself is the collateral, which anchors the lender's recovery to the asset. Best for hard-asset purchases.
A/R financing / invoice factoring: Advances of typically 70-90% of invoice value, underwritten largely on your customers' creditworthiness. Best for B2B businesses with solid clients.
SBA 7(a)/504: Guarantee required, but in exchange you get among the lowest rates and longest terms available. Best when cost matters most.

Important Disclosures
Quordx Capital is a business funding broker, not a lender. We facilitate introductions between U.S. small and medium-sized businesses and lenders or capital providers in our network. All credit decisions, funding amounts, rates, fees, repayment terms, and timelines are determined solely by individual lenders based on their own underwriting criteria.
Funding figures and timelines shown on this page are illustrative and represent ranges within our lender network, they are not guarantees and individual outcomes may vary based on business profile, industry, time in business, revenue, credit history, and lender availability. Not all applicants qualify for every product.
The initial inquiry does not impact your personal credit score. Some lenders may perform a hard credit pull during underwriting; Quordx only authorizes such checks with your specific consent for the lender presenting an offer. Applicants are protected under the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) from discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, age, or because all or part of an applicant's income derives from any public-assistance program.
