Government Small Business Funding For Startups
Chasing government small business funding as a startup means navigating a system that wasn't built for pre-revenue ventures. The government doesn't write startup checks directly, and most SBA loans favor businesses with two-plus years of history. The genuine startup-friendly paths are narrower, SBA microloans, 7(a) Express, and a handful of early-stage lenders. Quordx Capital is upfront about that and matches your startup to lenders in our 50+ network who actually fund newer businesses, alongside the realistic alternatives. Free to apply, decisions in 24-48 hours.

How Government-Backed Startup Funding Works
The SBA guarantees part of a loan a private lender makes, which can tip a borderline startup toward approval. But you still need a credible business plan, projections, decent personal credit (680+ helps), and often some skin in the game in the form of owner equity. Microloans, issued through nonprofit intermediaries and capped around $50K, are the most startup-accessible SBA option.
If you have no revenue yet, expect government-backed routes to be tough and slow, alternative and asset-based lenders are usually more realistic and far quicker to fund.
Which Funding Options Fit a Startup?
SBA Microloan: Smaller, low-cost capital up to ~$50K through nonprofit lenders, often with mentoring attached. Best for early-stage businesses needing modest funding and guidance.
Equipment Financing: Secured by the equipment itself, easing the history requirement, with rates near ~7-20%. Best for startups buying assets where the purchase backs the loan.
Business Credit Cards: Available early and useful for building credit history. Best for bridging startup costs as revenue ramps toward larger financing.
