How does a business term loan work?
A business term loan works in three phases: you receive a lump sum at funding, you repay it through scheduled payments of principal plus interest over a fixed term, typically 1 to 5 years, and the debt ends on a known date. Simple in concept, but the mechanics (amortization, fees, prepayment terms) are where borrowers either save or bleed money. Signing without understanding those mechanics is how a fair-sounding loan turns expensive. Here's the full lifecycle, plus how Quordx Capital helps you enter it with multiple lenders competing instead of one dictating.

The Life of a Term Loan, Step by Step
1. Application and underwriting: You apply with bank statements (3-6 months), your most recent business tax return, ID, and entity documents. Lenders size the loan, commonly $10K-$500K+, against your revenue, credit, and existing debt.
2. Offer and terms: The offer specifies amount, rate, term, fees, and payment schedule. Ask about origination fees and prepayment treatment before signing: both change your true cost.
3. Funding: The full amount hits your account, typically 3-7 business days after approval through Quordx Capital-matched lenders.
4. Amortized repayment: Each fixed payment splits between interest and principal. Early payments are interest-heavy; over time the mix shifts toward principal until the balance reaches zero. A fixed rate means the payment never changes: useful for budgeting through the whole term.
5. Payoff: The loan ends on schedule, or early if you prepay and your contract allows it without penalty. A cleanly repaid term loan also strengthens your file for cheaper borrowing next time.
Term Loans and Their Closest Cousins
Business term loan ($10K-$500K+): Best when you need the full amount on day one and want fixed, predictable payments.
Working capital loan ($5K-$500K): Best for shorter operational needs: same lump-sum structure, compressed timeline.
Business line of credit ($10K-$250K+): Best when the need recurs; you reuse the credit as you repay it.
SBA 7(a) (up to $5M): Best for the lowest long-term cost: current variable rates roughly 10.5%-14%, if weeks of process are acceptable.
How Quordx Capital Works
Quordx Capital compresses step one across an entire market: a single 5-minute application, one document upload, and matching process that ranks 3-7 best-fit lenders out of 50+ by your approval probability. You compare real offers instead of guessing which lender to approach. Decisions usually land within 24-48 hours, with funding in 3-7 business days.
What to Expect
Expect to see the mechanics in writing before you commit, rate, fees, amortization, prepayment terms, because transparency is the standard, not the exception. The matching costs you nothing, ever, and reviewing offers creates no obligation to accept one.
