Best Business Credit Cards for a Brand New Business in 2026
You can apply for a business credit card for a brand new business on the day you open, because the underwriting reads the owner. The American Express Blue Business Cash Card pays a flat 2% with no annual fee and no categories to learn. The Bank of America Business Advantage Unlimited Cash Rewards Mastercard Credit Card is the pick if your deposits already sit at Bank of America, where Preferred Rewards for Business lifts the base rate. Capital One Spark Cash Select pairs no annual fee with no foreign transaction fee, which matters if your first suppliers are overseas. The PNC Cash Rewards Visa Signature Business Credit Card is a straightforward flat 1.5% for owners banking with PNC. The U.S. Bank Business Shield Visa Card earns almost nothing and is here anyway, because startup costs land before revenue does. Hold the distinction: this page is about stage, not tenure, and a business that has not traded yet is assessed on the owner's credit and reportable income.
How We Picked These Cards for Day-One Businesses
The filter was whether a business with no operating history and no business credit file could realistically be considered, which excluded anything requiring established business credit, verified revenue or a bank balance floor. Beyond that we favored no annual fee, since a card opened before the first invoice should cost nothing to hold, and included one option built around early cash flow rather than rewards. Ordered alphabetically rather than ranked. Offers change often.
The 5 Best Business Credit Cards for a Brand New Business
Blue Business Cash
Before a business has a spending pattern, a category card is a guess. This one removes the guess by paying 2% cash back on all eligible purchases up to an annual cap each calendar year, then 1%, with no categories at all. No annual fee, an intro 0% APR period on purchases, and free cards for whoever you bring on first. American Express reports to business credit bureaus and generally keeps ongoing activity off your personal report, though a personal guarantee is required. A foreign transaction fee makes it a poor first card if your launch involves buying abroad.
Business Advantage Unlimited Cash Rewards
If you opened the business checking account at Bank of America, this card earns more than its headline rate suggests. Base earning is unlimited 1.5% cash back with no categories or caps, no annual fee, plus an intro 0% APR period on purchases. What changes the math is Preferred Rewards for Business, free to join, which boosts the base rate by 25% at Gold, 50% at Platinum and 75% at Platinum Honors, with tier set by combined Bank of America business deposit and Merrill business investment balances. That program was not touched by the May 2026 changes to the bank's personal rewards program. Employee cards cost nothing. Foreign purchases carry a fee, and without deposits at the bank there are better flat-rate options.
Spark Cash Select
A new business often has a supplier before it has a customer, and often that supplier is not in the United States. This is one of the few no-annual-fee business cards that also charges no foreign transaction fee, which makes early overseas orders meaningfully cheaper than they would be on most alternatives here. It earns unlimited 1.5% cash back with no categories, adds an intro 0% APR period on purchases, and gives free employee cards. Capital One now uses the name Spark 1.5% Cash Select for this card. The consideration specific to a brand new business: Capital One reports full ongoing activity to your personal credit at all three bureaus, so early spending raises the personal utilization your next lender will see.
PNC Cash Rewards Visa Signature Business Credit Card
For an owner who wants the card and the operating account under one roof from day one, PNC keeps this simple. Despite a name implying bonus categories, it is flat-rate: unlimited 1.5% cash back on all purchases, no caps, nothing to activate. There is no annual fee, plus an intro 0% APR period on purchases. Rewards redeem as a statement credit or deposit straight into a linked PNC business checking or savings account, useful plumbing when the banking relationship is new. It reports to business bureaus and does not routinely hit personal credit. PNC does not publish clearly whether employee cards are free, so ask before planning around it.
U.S. Bank Business Shield Visa Card
Everything else here is a rewards card. This is a financing tool, and a new business often needs that more. It replaced the U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card when it launched in February 2026, and it exists to provide an intro 0% APR period on purchases while earning 5% cash back on prepaid air, hotel and car rentals booked through the U.S. Bank Travel Center and nothing anywhere else. There is no annual fee. One quirk is worth acting on: the intro period runs longer if you apply in a U.S. Bank branch than online. If you intend to pay in full every month, you are giving up rewards for nothing.
How to Choose a Business Credit Card for a Brand New Business
Answer the time-in-business question honestly. Entering zero months does not automatically end an application at the major issuers, because the personal credit pull and the income you report carry the file. Inventing tenure is a bad trade on a document that gets verified.
Know which products are genuinely closed to you. Ramp requires a US business bank account holding roughly $25,000 or more, a formally registered entity and a physical US address, and it rejects PO boxes, virtual offices, registered agent addresses and mail forwarding. Brex reports a cash reserve expectation nearer $50,000 and excludes sole proprietors. Those are floors, not preferences.
Choose a fee structure you can defend in a slow quarter. An annual fee is a bet on spend volume you do not have yet.
Separate launch spend from operating spend. If you are financing equipment, deposits or build-out, an intro 0% APR window is worth more than a point of cash back, and it has an end date you should already have circled.
Brand New Business Card Questions
Can I apply before the business has any customers?
Yes. There is no rule at Chase, American Express, Capital One or Bank of America that a business must be trading before you apply. Those issuers underwrite the owner, which is why the application asks for your Social Security Number alongside the business details.
What if I have not formed an LLC yet?
Every major issuer accepts a sole proprietorship. You typically enter your Social Security Number in both the personal and business tax ID fields, whereas an LLC or corporation enters its EIN in the business field. The tradeoff is no liability separation and an unavoidable personal guarantee.
Am I eligible for a corporate card with no personal guarantee?
Almost certainly not on day one. The real no-guarantee cards underwrite your company's cash position, with published expectations starting around $25,000 in business bank balances at Ramp and nearer $50,000 at Brex. Sole proprietors and unregistered businesses are excluded from both regardless of balance.
When a Brand New Business Needs Capital Instead
The gap that catches new owners is not monthly overhead, it is the one-time cost of opening: a build-out, a vehicle, a first serious inventory position. Those sit above what an issuer extends to a business with no history. We at Quordx can read your profile and match it to lenders that finance early-stage businesses, from equipment financing to SBA loans, across 50+ vetted lenders, and it costs you nothing.
