OnDeck Alternatives: 5 Best OnDeck Business Loan Competitors
Owners shopping OnDeck alternatives are rarely chasing a lower headline number. They want three terms changed: how often money leaves the account, what an early payoff costs, and whether a lien lands on everything they own.
OnDeck puts all three in writing, so it earns a hearing first. Payments come out daily, weekly or monthly depending on the funding approved, and its term loan is secured by a general lien on business assets, backed by a personal guarantee.
This guide is part of our full library on Business Loans. Start there for the complete lineup, then come back for the deep dive on your situation.
What OnDeck puts in writing, and the three terms that push owners out
Both sides of the prepayment rule are published. Term loan customers who qualify get OnDeck's full prepayment benefit: remaining interest waived, with no penalty or fee on an early full payoff. Customers who do not qualify still owe a published share of the remaining unpaid interest, and which tier you land in is the question to settle before signing. The rest of the bar is public as well, covering personal credit, annual revenue, time in business and a business checking account. OnDeck decides eligibility on a soft credit check of the owner's personal credit, and prices its term loan as an interest rate rather than a factor rate.
It goes easy on collateral and hard on the lien. OnDeck states it requires no specific amount, type or value of collateral, and no appraisal. The general lien still attaches, and it is filed against everything. That can block or complicate a later equipment lender, receivables facility or bank line until it is subordinated or released.
The payment timing and the family tree are what push people out. Money leaving daily suits a business paid in daily deposits and punishes one paid by three commercial customers on Net 30, causing overdrafts that have nothing to do with profit. OnDeck is also no longer independent. Enova International lists it as one of its small business lending brands, alongside Headway Capital, which offers revolving lines of credit.
Five OnDeck alternatives, sorted by the term you want fixed
American Express Business Line of Credit, for monthly payments
American Express Business Line of Credit is the cleanest answer on payment timing. Each draw becomes an installment loan on a fixed term chosen from published options, and it repays monthly, which is easier on a business with lumpy receipts. American Express publishes a time in business requirement and a FICO minimum, and states that not all industries are eligible, so check the industry list first.
Cost is a flat monthly loan fee on the original principal rather than an interest rate, published as a range on its own page. Because the fee is charged against original principal, it does not shrink as the balance falls. No total fee table appears on the pages we reviewed, and not all customers get the lowest fee or every term length. Fees for months not yet posted are not charged when principal is repaid early.
Fundbox, if early payoff is the term you care about
Fundbox states you can choose your terms with no early repayment fees. It publishes a maximum facility size and a repayment schedule measured in weeks, which fixes prepayment and access rather than payment timing.
Its stated requirement is a business checking account with a minimum history of transactions. Nothing about revenue, operating history or credit score sits next to it on the pages we reviewed. Fundbox reads bank transactions on a soft pull first, and holds the hard pull back until your first draw. The credit agreement names First Electronic Bank or Lead Bank, the originators, rather than Fundbox.
Bluevine, for a larger line
Bluevine pairs a line of credit with its own business checking, and draws repay weekly over a published number of weeks. Its eligibility page names a time in business requirement, a monthly revenue floor and a personal FICO minimum, and the business has to be a corporation or an LLC. It does not operate in Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota or U.S. territories.
What an early payoff saves depends on which plan you are on. Bluevine runs a weekly plan for newer businesses and a monthly plan for older ones, with a higher credit and revenue bar on the monthly plan. Ask which plan your approval sits on, because a weekly debit and a monthly debit produce very different cash flow at the same quoted price.
Chase, if speed is not the deciding factor
If you clear a bank standard, Chase writes business term loans with fixed monthly payments of principal and interest and no origination fee. It advertises a maximum term length, while its own disclosure describes a shorter typical term, so ask what term you are being offered. A prepayment fee applies only above a published loan size. Its published eligibility covers a minimum personal FICO, an annual revenue floor and a rule against a majority ownership or management change in the recent past.
Applying triggers an inquiry on both your personal and business credit. No funding timeline appears on the pages we reviewed, so ask for one if the date matters.
Quordx, if you would rather compare once
Full disclosure: this is our page.
No bill ever comes to you from us: nothing to apply, nothing for the brokerage work, nothing to process the file. A lender pays us a commission, and only on a deal that closes. That does not make the loan free, and we would rather be the ones to say it. The lender's own charge for writing it, and any closing costs, are still yours. The looking costs you nothing.
One application, roughly 10 minutes, and we read the file by hand rather than bouncing it off a filter. We come back with the kinds of funding your business can realistically reach. Then one complete package goes to three to seven lenders out of a network of 50-plus, chosen because your revenue, industry and time in business match what they already fund. Those lenders publish their own turnaround claims: a decision in 24 to 48 hours, and funding 3 to 7 business days after that. Portal and email the whole way, so nobody makes you sit through a call.
Some lenders on our panel pay better than others. That has never decided which offer we hand you. If the smaller one carries better terms for the next twelve months, that is the one we tell you to sign. If nothing fits your file today, we say so and earn nothing that day. Small shop. Doing this right is all we have.
Our network covers equipment financing, A/R financing, lines of credit and term loans, so sometimes the fix is a different product. Two things we cannot do: put up the money ourselves, or approve you on our own. We do not serve California, Nevada, North Dakota or South Dakota.
How to compare an OnDeck offer against another one
Turn both offers into total dollars repaid. Then divide by the number of payments. A fee on original principal and a rate on a falling balance are not comparable until you do.
Put the prepayment question in writing. There are three answers. Everything unearned is waived, part of it is, or none of it is. If you might pay off early, that answer beats a small gap in headline pricing.
Ask what gets filed. A UCC filing on all business assets is standard on many short-term products and shapes your next twelve months of borrowing. Ask whether your offer includes one, and how a release or subordination works.
Match the payment schedule to your deposits, not to your preference. Pull the last 60 days of bank statements and see how deposits cluster. The right schedule is the one your worst week can absorb.
Is OnDeck still an independent company? No. Enova International lists OnDeck as one of its small business lending brands, so it operates as part of Enova rather than a standalone company.
Is Headway Capital a good second option after OnDeck? It is a separate brand with its own revolving line of credit, but both sit under Enova. Treat it as a related look, not an independent one.
Does paying off a short-term loan early always save money? No, and that is expensive to assume. Interest-priced loans usually reward an early payoff. Fixed-fee and factor-priced products often do not. OnDeck sits in between, depending on whether you have the full prepayment benefit.
What is the fastest realistic funding timeline for a first-time borrower? The lenders on our panel publish 3 to 7 business days from approval when the file is complete, and incomplete bank statements are the most common reason a file goes slow.
If your deposits arrive daily and steadily, OnDeck may suit you better than anything here. The question is whether its payment timing, prepayment tier and lien fit the next twelve months, not just this week.
If you would rather see three or four structures side by side, send us the file and we will build the comparison from your own numbers.
