Do lenders look at gross or net revenue?

Most business lenders qualify you on gross revenue, the total deposits flowing through your business bank account, but they underwrite your ability to repay using cash flow and, for larger loans, net income. In practice: gross revenue gets you in the door; what's left after expenses determines how much you can borrow. Owners who quote their gross figure and assume it equals borrowing power often get approved for less than expected. Knowing how each number is used helps you target the right loan size, and Quordx Capital matches your real financial picture to lenders who'll actually approve it.

How lenders use each number

For revenue-based products, working capital loans, merchant cash advances, many online term loans, lenders pull 3-6 months of business bank statements and total your deposits. That's gross revenue, and the common alternative-lender minimum is roughly $10K+ per month. They also study what the statements reveal about net reality: average daily balances, overdrafts, and existing debt payments leaving the account.

For bank and SBA loans, underwriting goes deeper. Lenders review tax returns and, on larger deals, a P&L and balance sheet, calculating whether your cash flow after expenses covers the proposed payment (debt service coverage). A business grossing $1M but netting $30K supports far less debt than one grossing $500K and netting $150K. MCAs flip the lens entirely: repayment is taken as a daily or weekly percentage of revenue, so gross volume is what's being purchased.

Products and the revenue lens they use

Working capital loans: qualified largely on gross deposits; $5K-$500K. Best when your top line is strong.

Business term loans: gross gets you considered, cash flow sets your amount; $10K-$500K+. Best for balanced files.

SBA loans: full cash-flow underwriting on returns and financials; up to $5M. Best for profitable, documented businesses.

A/R financing / invoice factoring: advances typically 70-90% of invoice value; your clients' creditworthiness matters more than your margins. Best for B2B businesses with slow-paying customers.

How Quordx Capital Works

Upload 3-6 months of bank statements and your most recent business tax return with a 5-minute application, and Quordx Capital's matching process reads both your gross deposits and your cash-flow picture. It then matches you to 3-7 best-fit lenders from a 50+ network: those whose underwriting style favors your particular numbers. Decisions typically come back in 24-48 hours; funding lands in 3-7 business days.

What to Expect

Expect approval amounts grounded in what your cash flow supports, not just your top line, and an honest conversation if those two numbers tell different stories. If thin margins limit your options, we'll show which products still fit (factoring and equipment financing lean less on margins) instead of overpromising. Matching is free, terms are disclosed in full, and there's no obligation.
