Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business Credit Card Review (2026): A $149 Card Built Around Companion Pass Progress

Rates, fees and offers are current as of August 2026 and change without notice. Confirm terms with the issuer before you apply.

A $149 annual fee buys a narrow, fairly predictable set of things on the Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business Credit Card, and the recurring benefits are the honest reason to hold it. Each account anniversary year returns 6,000 bonus points and a 15% discount code good on base fares booked at Southwest.com or in the app, and each calendar year brings 10,000 Companion Pass qualifying points. Those arrive whether or not you fly much. Earning is modest: 3 points per dollar on Southwest purchases, and 2 points per dollar at gas stations and restaurants only until $8,000 of combined spend each anniversary year. If you want to choose seats at the moment you book, this is not the card that does it, and that trade is why the fee is lower.

How the Southwest Premier Business Rewards Work

Three points per dollar apply to purchases made directly with Southwest, covering flights, inflight purchases, gift cards and Southwest Vacations or Getaways packages, with Charters and Cargo excluded. Gas stations and restaurants share a 2 points per dollar rate on the first $8,000 of combined spend each account anniversary year, then revert to 1. All remaining purchases earn 1 point per dollar, as does the first $15,000 of balance transfers made in the first 90 days.

Two categories in older summaries no longer exist: 2x at Rapid Rewards hotel and rental car partners and 2x on local transit and commuting both ended December 31, 2025, as did 3x on Southwest Cruises. Redemptions follow the fare, so a cheap ticket costs few points.

The Southwest Premier Business Welcome Offer

The public offer as of August 10, 2026 is 60,000 bonus points for spending $3,000 in the first three months after opening, with no second tier and up to eight weeks for points to reach your Rapid Rewards account. Eligibility is limited to people who do not currently hold this business card and have not collected its new cardmember bonus in the previous 24 months. Because that language is specific to this card, a personal Southwest account does not interfere.

Companion Pass Mechanics, Status and Onboard Benefits

Southwest awards the Companion Pass at 135,000 qualifying points or 100 qualifying one-way flights within a calendar year, and it then runs through the end of the following year. The exclusion list is what trips people up: points you buy, points transferred from another member, points converted from hotel or car programs, enrollment points, tier bonus points, flight bonus points and partner bonus points are all disqualified. Credit card points from Chase are written into the terms as the one exception, making card spend the most reliable qualifying source a business has. The card's 10,000-point boost lands by January 31 or within 30 days of opening, but only one card account per Rapid Rewards member gets a boost each calendar year, and you must be its primary cardmember.

Toward elite status, the card generates 2,000 tier qualifying points per $5,000 in purchases, counting cardmember and employee spend, feeding A-List and A-List Preferred. Those points cannot be spent on travel and do not help you reach Companion Pass. At the airport, the first checked bag is free for the primary cardmember and up to eight companions on one reservation, though employee cardholders are excluded. Boarding is a fixed Group 5 assignment within the Groups 1 through 8 structure introduced with assigned seating on January 27, 2026. Onboard, 25% of inflight drink and WiFi purchases returns as a statement credit.

What the Southwest Premier Business Costs

The $149 fee appears on your first statement. Purchases carry a variable APR of 19.24% to 27.74%, tied to a 6.75% Prime Rate accurate as of December 16, 2025, with a 29.99% ceiling. Cash advances are 28.49%, and a missed payment can move all balances to a default APR of up to 29.99%. No intro APR is offered.

There is no charge on foreign purchases. A balance transfer costs $5 or 5% of the amount, whichever is greater, a cash advance $15 or 5%, and late or returned payments $40 apiece. On fee arithmetic, the 6,000 anniversary points, the 10,000 Companion Pass points and one trip's worth of free checked bags for a small group justify $149.

Who Should Get the Southwest Premier Business

This suits an owner whose company flies Southwest regularly but not weekly, and who values the annual drip of points and the discount code more than premium seating. It also suits anyone chasing the Companion Pass at the lowest carrying cost, since the 10,000-point annual deposit is identical no matter which Southwest business card delivers it.

Who Should Skip It

Pass on this if seat assignments matter at the point of booking, because here they open only inside the final 48 hours and depend on what is left. Pass on it as well if your gas and restaurant spending is heavy, since the bonus rate stops at $8,000 a year. Anyone flying across several airlines will find the points, the bag benefit and the boarding group all stranded on one carrier.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the 15% promotion code actually work?

It appears in your Rapid Rewards account within 15 days of your account anniversary and stays valid for a year from delivery. It applies to base fare only, before taxes and fees, and at least $5.60 per one-way trip remains payable. Basic fares, group travel, vacation packages, swabiz.com, GDS bookings and military or government fares are all excluded.

Is there a minimum credit score for approval?

Chase does not publish one. General guidance for business cards of this type points to good or excellent personal credit, meaning a personal FICO score around 690 or higher. Separately, a widely reported unofficial practice of declining applicants with five or more new card accounts in the past 24 months can affect the outcome.

Does the $8,000 cap reset on January 1?

No. It runs on your account anniversary year, which starts at your open date and runs to the first statement after the anniversary, then in 12 billing cycle blocks. Gas and restaurant purchases share the same $8,000 allowance.

Bottom Line

Read this as a maintenance card rather than a travel-perks card. The $149 buys 6,000 points, a 15% fare code, 10,000 Companion Pass qualifying points and free bags on group itineraries, whether you fly twice or twenty times. Spend beyond $8,000 in gas and dining, or care deeply about where you sit, and the value stalls. Everyone else gets a low-drama way to keep a Southwest account earning.
