Bank of America Business Advantage Travel Rewards World Mastercard Credit Card Review (2026): Free to Carry, Costly to Cash Out

Rates, fees and offers are current as of August 2026 and change without notice. Confirm terms with the issuer before you apply.

The Bank of America Business Advantage Travel Rewards World Mastercard credit card carries no annual fee, no charge for employee cards and no fee on foreign purchases. Purchases earn 1.5 points per dollar across the board, rising to 3 points per dollar through the bank's own Travel Center, with no ceiling on either. What decides the card is the redemption rate: a point is worth one cent applied as a travel credit and six tenths of a cent taken as cash. That 40% gap is the whole argument for and against it. It works for a business with travel and dining charges on the statement every month and underperforms for one that plans to bank the points as cash.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • No foreign transaction fee, uncommon on a card with no annual fee
  • No caps at any earn rate, including the 3 points per dollar Travel Center tier
  • 50,000 bonus points after $5,000 in net purchases inside the first 90 days
  • Relationship tiers can lift the base earn to 2.625 points per dollar
Cons
  • Points redeemed for cash are worth $0.006 each against $0.01 as a travel credit
  • The 3 points per dollar rate applies only to the bank's own booking channel
  • Travel credits reach back 12 months and only to the most recent 2,500 qualifying purchases
  • Balance transfers start at the full APR and carry a 5% fee

How the Travel Rewards Card Rewards Work

Two earn rates, no categories to elect and no annual limit on either. Net purchases earn 1.5 points per dollar. Purchases booked through the Bank of America Travel Center earn 3 points per dollar, made up of that same 1.5 base plus a 1.5 bonus that is not capped.

The multiplier behind those rates is the real variable. Preferred Rewards for Business applies its bonus to points as each purchase posts, not at redemption, and the size of the bonus is set by a three-month combined average daily balance across Bank of America business deposit accounts and Merrill business investment accounts. Gold starts at $20,000 and adds 25%. Platinum starts at $50,000 and adds 50%. Platinum Honors starts at $100,000 and adds 75%, turning 1.5 points per dollar into 2.625 and the Travel Center rate into 5.25. That uplift is worth nothing to a business that banks elsewhere.

The Travel Rewards Card Welcome Offer

The publicly posted offer is 50,000 bonus points for at least $5,000 in net purchases posted within 90 days of opening, one bonus per company, credited within the following one to two billing cycles. Elevated offers appear periodically, but this is the standing public version.

Two things constrain it. The relationship bonus is not applied to the account opening bonus, so a Platinum Honors balance does not turn 50,000 into 87,500. And the application acknowledgment states that a business entity that currently holds, or has held within the preceding 24 months, another Bank of America business card may be declined for additional card accounts.

Redeeming Points and the 40% Haircut

Points come out three ways at three different rates. Applied as a travel credit, each point is worth one cent, with 2,500 points the entry threshold for $25. Taken as cash rewards, each point is worth six tenths of a cent, so those same 2,500 points return $15. Gift cards start at 3,500 points and their value varies.

The travel credit is a statement credit that offsets qualifying purchases already on the account. Eligible merchants run wider than the name suggests: airlines, hotels, timeshares, campgrounds, car and truck rental, RV rental, museums and zoos, plus restaurants, bars, lounges, nightclubs and fast food. In-flight goods and duty-free airport purchases are excluded. The credit reaches purchases made in the prior 12 months, limited to the most recent 2,500 qualifying transactions. Cash redemptions go out as a check, an electronic deposit to an eligible Bank of America checking or savings account, or a credit to an eligible Merrill investment account.

What the Travel Rewards Card Costs

Purchases sit at 0% for seven billing cycles from opening, then move to 16.74% to 26.74% variable, set by personal or business creditworthiness and priced off the Prime index as of July 31, 2026, with disclosures accurate as of August 2026. Note that the intro window is seven cycles, not the nine often quoted. Balance transfers never get a promotional rate: they carry the full variable APR immediately and cost 5% of each transfer. Pull cash and you pay 5% at the window plus 27.74% variable from that day. There is no penalty APR. Late fees run $0 at balances of $100 or less, then $29, $39 and $49 as the balance crosses $1,000 and $5,000.

Separate from pricing, the application grants the bank a security interest and a contractual right of offset in deposit accounts the business or the owner keeps at Bank of America or its affiliates, and the owner signs on personally for all charges.

Who Should Get the Travel Rewards Card

A consulting firm with regular client travel, monthly restaurant charges and vendors billing in euros gets three things for nothing: an uncapped rate, a path to erase the travel spend, and no currency surcharge. Businesses that already book through the Bank of America Travel Center double their rate on that spend, and a company sitting on a six-figure balance at the bank should weigh 2.625 points per dollar against whatever flat cash card it carries today.

Who Should Skip It

If the plan is to bank the points as cash, skip this. At $0.006 per point the return on general spending is 0.9%, weak for a card asking you to manage a redemption strategy. Businesses that book travel through their own agency or a booking site of their choosing never reach the 3 points per dollar tier, and anyone needing to move an existing balance gets no help here.

Frequently Asked Questions

**What is a point actually worth on this card?**

One cent as a travel credit, six tenths of a cent as cash rewards. Travel, travel credits and cash all start at 2,500 points; gift cards start at 3,500 and their value varies.

**Which purchases can a travel credit be applied against?**

Airlines, hotels, car and truck rental, campgrounds, timeshares, museums and zoos, plus restaurants, bars, lounges and fast food. In-flight goods and duty-free airport purchases do not qualify. The credit reaches the prior 12 months, capped at the most recent 2,500 qualifying transactions.

**Does the relationship bonus apply to the sign-up bonus?**

No. Preferred Rewards for Business applies its 25%, 50% or 75% uplift to points earned on purchases as they post. The account opening bonus is excluded, so it pays 50,000 points at every tier.

Bottom Line

This is a travel card in the literal sense: the points are worth their stated value only when they go back toward travel and dining. Redeem that way and a no-fee card with no currency surcharge and an uncapped 1.5 points per dollar earns a place in a small business wallet, particularly at Platinum tier or above. Redeem for cash and you are accepting 0.9% on general spending, which is not competitive.
