The Business Platinum Card from American Express Review (2026): An $895 Fee Priced Around Vendor Credits
Rates, fees and offers are current as of August 2026 and change without notice. Confirm terms with the issuer before you apply.
The Business Platinum Card from American Express costs $895 a year, a level set in a 2025 refresh that rebuilt its earn rates and credits. Amex says the card carries over $4,000 in annual value, and that holds only if your business already buys from Dell, Adobe, Indeed, Hilton and a US wireless carrier, since most of those credits require enrollment and each runs on its own clock. Lounge access is the one broad benefit. The product shape matters too: charge-style with no preset spending limit, so no purchase APR and no introductory rate, and $400 for every employee card.
Frequent business travelers who also route large vendor purchases through the card and will enroll in several named credits.

How the Business Platinum Rewards Work
Three rates. Flights and prepaid hotels booked at AmexTravel.com earn 5X Membership Rewards points. A 2X rate covers four buckets: US construction material and hardware suppliers, US electronic goods retailers and software and cloud providers, US shipping providers, and any single eligible purchase of $5,000 or more, all sharing one $2 million cap per calendar year. Everything else earns 1X.
The $5,000 trigger is the standout: it applies to any single purchase regardless of merchant, which suits businesses buying equipment or freight in big tickets. A 35% Pay with Points rebate also applies on flights with one selected airline booked through Amex Travel, capped at 1,000,000 points a year.
The Business Platinum Welcome Offer
Amex advertises an offer as high as 300,000 Membership Rewards points after $20,000 in purchases within the first three months. Read the ceiling literally: Amex states that welcome offers vary, that you may not be eligible, and that your exact figure is disclosed after you apply and before approval.
Your window to spend $20,000 may be shorter than three months, because the clock starts at account opening rather than delivery. Points post 8 to 12 weeks after the threshold, and the account cannot be cancelled or past due at fulfillment.
The Business Platinum Statement Credits, One by One
Four credits need nothing beyond travel. The hotel credit is up to $300 semiannually, $600 a calendar year, on prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection bookings through Amex Travel; the latter needs two nights and carries a separate $100 on-property credit. The Airline Fee Credit covers up to $200 a year in incidental fees from one selected airline: Alaska, American, Delta, Hawaiian, JetBlue, Spirit, Southwest or United. CLEAR+ is reimbursed up to $219 a calendar year. Global Entry at $120, or TSA PreCheck at up to $85, is covered once every four years.
The rest are vendor-specific and all require enrollment. Dell is the headline: up to $150 on US Dell purchases plus $1,000 more once you spend $5,000 or more there, for up to $1,150 a year. Adobe pays $250 a year after $600 in US Adobe purchases. ChatGPT Business is covered up to $300 a year. Indeed pays up to $90 a quarter, $360 a year. Hilton pays up to $50 a quarter, $200 a year, on purchases direct with a property, excluding gift cards, and requires a HiltonForBusiness.com membership. Wireless service billed directly by a US provider earns up to $10 a month, $120 a year.
Spend $250,000 in a calendar year and two more credits unlock for the next: up to $2,400 against American Express One AP fees and $1,200 on AmexTravel.com flights.
Lounges, Status and Travel Coverage
The Global Lounge Collection covers Centurion Lounges for the Card Member, Priority Pass Select after enrollment, and 10 Delta Sky Club visits a year on eligible Delta flights, usable February 1 through January 31. At $75,000 of eligible purchases in a calendar year, Sky Club visits become unlimited and complimentary access for up to two guests applies at Sidecar by The Centurion Lounge locations in the US.
Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite and Hilton Honors Gold arrive without stay requirements once you enroll. Trip Delay Insurance pays up to $500 after a covered delay over six hours, and Trip Cancellation and Interruption covers $10,000 per trip and $20,000 per card per 12 months.
What the Business Platinum Costs
Each Employee Business Platinum Card is $400 a year, so three take the outlay to $2,095; the no-fee Employee Business Expense Card is the alternative, though it does not get Sidecar access.
Charge-style means no purchase APR and no introductory rate. Eligible charges go automatically onto a Pay Over Time balance up to your limit, carrying 17.74% to 28.49% variable, accurate as of August 10, 2026; anything not added is due in full. Late payments cost $39 or 2.99% of any past due pay-in-full amount, whichever is greater. There is no foreign transaction fee. On break-even: CLEAR+, the airline fee credit and the wireless credit total $539 a year, and the $600 hotel credit clears the fee on top of that.
Who Should Get the Business Platinum
This fits an owner who uses lounges monthly, books hotels through Amex Travel rather than direct, and buys hardware, software or advertising in single tickets above $5,000. If Dell supplies your hardware and Indeed is your hiring channel, two credits alone approach the fee.
Who Should Skip It
Skip it if you rarely fly, because lounges and travel credits are most of what you are buying. Skip it if enrollment deadlines and quarterly windows are admin you will forget, since unused credits do not roll forward. And price the staff first, because at $400 each employee cards can cost more than the primary card.
Frequently Asked Questions
**Can I bring guests into the Centurion Lounge?**
Complimentary access for up to two guests at Sidecar by The Centurion Lounge locations in the US applies after $75,000 or more in eligible purchases in a calendar year. Below that, guest fees apply, and Amex does not state the amount.
**Am I guaranteed the full 300,000 points?**
No. The figure is a ceiling, and Amex says welcome offers vary and you may not be eligible at all. Your exact figure is disclosed after you apply and before approval, so budget the $20,000 of spending on that basis.
**Do I have to pay the balance in full each month?**
Mostly. Eligible charges are added automatically to a Pay Over Time balance up to your limit and can be carried at interest; anything not added must be paid in full. Amex says you have 25 to 53 days to pay with no interest if the prior and current statement balances were paid in full by the due date.
Bottom Line
The fee is not the question. What matters is whether your suppliers match the credit list and whether you fly enough to use lounges monthly. Hit both and the card returns more than $895 without heroics. Miss both and you are paying premium money for an earn rate available far cheaper.
